Nagpur: The progress of the southwest monsoon has stalled across Maharashtra for nearly two weeks and is expected to remain sluggish until at least June 15. As a result, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a rise in maximum temperatures across most parts of the state—except along the western coastal region—until June 14.

Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Khandesh to Witness Intense Heat:

The forecast indicates that maximum temperatures will remain significantly high in VidarbhaMarathwada, and Khandesh regions. In East Vidarbha, temperatures could soar to around 45°C, while in most parts of Vidarbha, the mercury is expected to stay above 40°C. Similarly, several areas in Marathwada and Khandesh are also likely to see temperatures hovering around 40°C.

Scattered Thunderstorms in Limited Areas:

No widespread or monsoon-related rainfall is anticipated across the state before June 14. However, isolated pre-monsoon showers accompanied by thunderstorms may occur in parts of South Marathwada and South-Central Maharashtra, particularly in the early part of this week. Other regions may experience scattered and patchy rainfall, mainly in the afternoon or evening hours.

Agriculture Department Cautions Farmers:

Given the absence of widespread rainfall and the expected rise in maximum temperatures, the State Agriculture Department has advised farmers—especially those in rainfed (dryland) areas—not to rush into sowing or plantation activities. Early sowing in dry conditions could lead to crop failure or wasted inputs if monsoon rains do not arrive on time.
