Nagpur: In a continued crackdown on the illegal commercial use of subsidised cooking gas, authorities conducted a special enforcement drive in Kalmeshwar taluka of Nagpur district, seizing six domestic LPG cylinders from hotels and restaurants operating in the Gondkhairi, Wardha Road, and Amravati Road areas.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of District Supply Officer Anand Padole and led by Tehsildar Vikas Bikkad, with the objective of curbing the misuse of domestic LPG cylinders meant exclusively for household consumption.
A dedicated team comprising Inspection Officer Mangesh Dhawale, Warehouse Manager Bharat Brahmankar, and Supply Inspectors Pravin Mankar and Ravindra Gawande conducted raids across multiple eateries. During inspections, several establishments were found using domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purposes, which is a violation of government regulations.
Officials highlighted that such illegal practices not only exploit subsidised government schemes but also disrupt the supply chain, potentially depriving households of essential cooking gas. Authorities further warned that in emergency or war-like situations, such misuse could lead to severe shortages for the general public.
The seized cylinders have been handed over to the respective gas distributors, and further investigation is underway to identify additional violations and take appropriate action.
Notably, a similar enforcement drive conducted in December had resulted in the seizure of 14 domestic LPG cylinders, indicating ongoing concerns over the issue in the region.
Tehsildar Vikas Bikkad urged residents and business owners to strictly avoid using domestic LPG cylinders for commercial activities or engaging in black marketing. He reiterated that commercial establishments must use designated blue commercial LPG cylinders.
Citizens have been encouraged to report any such violations or seek information by contacting the District Civil Supplies Office in Civil Lines, as authorities intensify efforts to ensure fair distribution and prevent misuse of essential commodities.
