Nagpur: The Yashodhara Nagar Police Station have arrested three men on charges of attempting to murder a 23-year-old youth following a dispute in Majri slum area on Sunday evening.
According to police, the complainant, Sheikh Mustafeez Sheikh Pavaj (23), a resident of Majri slum behind Madina Masjid, had an altercation around 7 pm on March 16 with accused Asif Ali Shaukat Ali (51) over drinking water in front of his house. Nursing a grudge over the argument, the main accused allegedly called his associates — Mukaddas Sheikh Sharif (29), a resident of Majri slum, and Sufiyan Sameer Sheikh (19) from Nizamuddin Colony — along with two minors in conflict with law to the spot.
Police said the group verbally abused and assaulted the complainant with fists and kicks. During the attack, one of the accused allegedly issued death threats and, with intent to kill, picked up a stone lying on the road and struck the victim on the head, causing grievous injuries.
The injured youth was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (Mayo Hospital), Nagpur, where he is undergoing treatment.
Based on the complaint, police registered an offence under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and apprehended the three accused. The two minors are being dealt with as per legal provisions. Further investigation is underway.
