Nagpur: A 55-year-old electrician lost his life after suffering an electric shock and falling from a power pole while carrying out electrical work in the MIDC area of Nagpur on Thursday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Ishwar Punjabrao Dhepe (55), a resident of SRPF Camp, Group No. 4, New Quarters, MIDC, Nagpur. According to police, Dhepe worked as an electrician and had climbed an electricity pole in the New Quarters area of the SRPF Camp under the jurisdiction of MIDC Police Station to carry out maintenance work at around 7 pm on May 28.
While working on the pole, he reportedly received a severe electric shock, causing him to lose balance and fall to the ground. He sustained serious injuries in the incident.
Family members and locals rushed him to Lata Mangeshkar Hospital for treatment. However, after examination, doctors declared him dead.
Based on the information provided by the deceased’s son, Shubham Ishwar Dhepe (32), a resident of SRPF Camp, Group No. 4, New Quarters, Nagpur, MIDC Police registered an accidental death case.
Police Sub-Inspector Akshay Gavande is conducting further investigation into the incident to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the fatal accident.
The tragic incident has once again highlighted the occupational hazards faced by electricians and utility workers while performing high-risk tasks involving live electrical infrastructure.
