Nagpur: In a significant development, Nandanvan Police have registered a case against a husband and his family members for allegedly abetting the suicide of a woman and her mother in the Nandanvan area.
The deceased have been identified as Sangita Shriram Dhabale (52) and her daughter Akanksha Lokesh Bramhe (29), who died by suicide on May 1 at their residence in Venkatesh Nagar. Initially, police had registered an accidental death report.
However, during the course of investigation and based on a complaint filed by Vilas Keshavrao Pise (47), it was revealed that Akanksha had allegedly been subjected to continuous physical and mental harassment by her husband Lokesh Bramhe, father-in-law Sudhakar Bramhe, mother-in-law Anusaya Bramhe, and other relatives.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly harassed Akanksha over demands for money from her parental home, subjected her to cruelty over the birth of a girl child who later died, and pressured her to transfer agricultural land in their name. The sustained harassment and alleged abuse are believed to have driven both the mother and daughter to take the extreme step.
Based on the findings, police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
