Nagpur: In a swift action, the Crime Branch Unit 2 apprehended a 35-year-old man for illegally carrying a deadly weapon near Beriwale Baba Dargah in Gittikhadan on June 15, around 6 PM.
During routine patrolling, the team received a tip-off about a suspicious individual roaming the area with a weapon. Acting on the information, police reached the spot where the suspect attempted to flee on spotting them. He was quickly chased down and detained. Upon questioning, the accused identified himself as Wasim alias Babbar Rafiq Pathan, a resident near Mithanim Dargah, Nagpur.
A search conducted in the presence of witnesses led to the recovery of a steel sword worth ₹500 from his possession. Since he was carrying the weapon with an alleged intent to commit a cognizable offence and violated preventive orders, Gittikhadan Police registered an offence under Section 4/25 of the Indian Arms Act and Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. The accused has been arrested, and further investigations are ongoing.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Additional CP Vasant Pardeshi (Crime), DCP Rahul Makanikar (Detection), and ACP Abhijit Patil, by officers and staff of Crime Branch Unit 2.
