AHTU Cracks Down on Flesh Trade Under ‘Operation Shakti’, Woman Booked Under PITA Act

Nagpur: The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the Crime Branch, Nagpur, has taken action under Operation Shakti and registered a case under the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA) within the jurisdiction of Kalamna police station.


Based on specific intelligence inputs, the AHTU team conducted a raid between 3.30 pm and 8 pm on January 7, 2026, at a public place near Umang Bar, close to Payal Daily Needs and a grocery store on Bharatwada Road, Kalamna. During the operation, the accused woman was allegedly found engaging a victim in flesh trade for monetary gain by luring her with financial incentives.


The accused has been identified as Mamta Jayant Nagvanshi (34), a resident of Gulmohar Nagar near Sudama Ashram, Kalamna. Acting on the complaint lodged by ASI Shyam Anguthlewar of the AHTU Crime Branch, Nagpur, police registered a case under Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, along with Section 143(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.


During the raid, police seized cash amounting to Rs 2,300 as per the panchnama and a mobile phone valued at Rs 10,000, taking the total seized property to Rs 12,300.


Both the accused and the victim woman were subjected to medical examination in the presence of panch witnesses. Subsequently, they were handed over to Kalamna police station along with the seized property for further legal action. Police said that further investigation in the case is underway.
