NAGPUR: A 21-year-old woman was allegedly harassed by an auto-rickshaw driver who winked at her and made an obscene remark while she was waiting for a bus at Jhansi Rani Square bus stop under the jurisdiction of Sitabuldi Police Station on Thursday afternoon.

According to the complaint, the woman was waiting for a bus around 3.30 pm on November 5 when an auto-rickshaw driver approached her and asked where she wanted to go. When she replied that she did not wish to go anywhere and moved aside, the driver allegedly approached her, winked and made objectionable comments.

The woman felt humiliated by the driver’s inappropriate behaviour. The accused allegedly fled from the spot immediately after making the remark.

Based on the woman’s complaint, Sitabuldi Police registered a case under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the unidentified auto-rickshaw driver. The vehicle involved bears registration number MH-31-EP-0082.

Further investigation is underway.
