Nagpur: A 42-year-old woman from Nagpur has allegedly been cheated of ₹7 lakh after two men promised to secure a government job for her engineer daughter in MahaMetro, according to a complaint registered with the Tehsil Police.

The complainant, Ranjana Nitin Shende, 42, runs a cable operator business under the name Shende Cable near Golibar Chowk in Nagpur. According to police, she was acquainted with one of the accused, Umar Farooq Ahmed Nabi, 42, who worked as a broker and had earlier helped her sell her house.

According to the complaint, Umar frequently visited Shende’s shop. During one such interaction, he asked about her daughter and learned that she was an engineer. Umar allegedly told Shende that he could arrange a government job for her daughter in MahaMetro Rail.

He subsequently introduced her to another accused, Devendra Govardhan Tavle, 45, at her shop. The two allegedly gained her confidence and assured her that they could secure the job.

Police said the accused allegedly collected ₹7 lakh from Shende on the pretext of arranging the government employment. However, the promised job was not secured and the money was also allegedly not returned.

Realising that she had been cheated, Shende approached the police. Based on her complaint, the Tehsil Police Station registered a case against Umar Farooq Ahmed Nabi and Devendra Govardhan Tavle under Sections 316(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). 

Police have begun an investigation into the alleged job fraud and are verifying the financial transactions and the role of both accused.
