NAGPUR: Two separate assault cases were reported in Nagpur during Kojagiri Purnima celebrations, with disputes over vehicle parking and festival contributions allegedly turning violent in Hudkeshwar and Bhandewadi areas. In one incident, a 53-year-old man was allegedly attacked with an iron rod, while in the other, a 21-year-old youth sustained a head injury after being struck with a stone.

In the first incident, reported from Old Subhedar Layout in Raghuji Nagar, behind the police quarters in Hudkeshwar, a dispute erupted over parking a vehicle outside a house during a Kojagiri Purnima gathering.

According to police, the 53-year-old complainant had invited relatives to his residence for the occasion. His brother allegedly parked a vehicle on the footpath in front of a neighbour’s house. The neighbour, aged 26, reportedly objected to the parking, triggering an argument.

When the complainant, his wife and daughter intervened, the accused allegedly abused the man and struck him on his left hand with an iron rod. The complainant’s wife and daughter were also allegedly assaulted with fists when they tried to protect him. The injured man received treatment at a private hospital before approaching Hudkeshwar police.

In the second incident, a 21-year-old youth was allegedly assaulted at the NIT Garden in Chandranagar, Old Pardi, under Bhandewadi police station limits.

According to police, the complainant was talking to a few people at the garden after dinner when three men allegedly approached him and questioned why he had not contributed money for the Kojagiri Purnima celebrations. The accused allegedly abused and assaulted him with fists, after which one of them picked up a stone lying nearby and struck him on the head.

The injured youth was taken to Mayo Hospital for treatment. Based on his complaint, Bhandewadi police registered a case against the three accused.

Police have registered separate cases in both incidents under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway.
