Nagpur: In a chilling incident, a theft attempt turned into a brutal murder after a 60-year-old disabled man resisted three accused who allegedly entered his house with the intent to steal cash in the Wadi police station limits.
The deceased, Sahesaram Bajirao Kevat, was residing alone in Krishna Nagar near Swami Samarth Temple in the Vadadhmana–Surabardi area and was dependent on a monthly government allowance due to his disability.
According to police, the incident occurred between 12:30 am and 1:00 am on April 13, 2026. The accused—Vilas Subhash Chaudhary (27), Jitendra Santosh Wagare (25), and Pravin Dhillan Chavan (25), all residents of Surabardi—allegedly conspired to steal money from the victim’s house.
When Kevat resisted the theft attempt, the accused allegedly smothered him with a pillow and strangled him, resulting in his death.
Following a complaint lodged by Reema Hemant Patel (22), Wadi Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Acting swiftly, police arrested one accused, while efforts are underway to trace the remaining two suspects.
Further investigation is ongoing.
