Nagpur: With the advent of quick commerce, 10-minute deliveries have replaced the earlier norm of waiting a day or two, redefining consumer expectations. However, the rapid pace required to meet these delivery promises has raised significant safety concerns. Delivery personnel often resort to signal jumping, over-speeding, and riding without helmets to meet tight deadlines, leading to a surge in fatal road accidents.

Traffic experts have expressed concern over the impact of these services on road safety and law enforcement. They argue that while companies profit from the demand for swift deliveries, it comes at the cost of public safety.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Archit Chandak, emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic norms to prevent accidents. “Following basic traffic rules like wearing helmets and stopping at red signals can save lives. Over-speeding and signal jumping will not be tolerated, even for meeting the 10-minute delivery target,” he stated.

Echoing this sentiment, Dnyanesh Pahune, a member of the citizens’ group Janakrosh, shared his experience with quick commerce services. “These companies rarely miss their 10-minute delivery deadlines, but this often comes at the expense of traffic violations. In 2024 alone, approximately 350 lives were lost on city roads. While we are not against these services, traffic norms must be strictly enforced to ensure safety for everyone,” he said.

As quick commerce continues to grow, experts urge delivery companies to prioritize safety over speed to prevent further loss of life and ease the burden on law enforcement.
