One Arrested for Snatching Cash For Liquor After Assaulting Youth in Mominpura

Nagpur: Tehsil Police have arrested one of the accused involved in a robbery case in Mominpura, where a young man was allegedly assaulted and robbed of cash after refusing to give money for liquor.


The incident took place around 10.30 pm on May 31. Complainant Soheb Akhtar Ansari (20), a resident near a mosque close to Kasabpura Ground in Mominpura, was taking a walk near his residence after dinner when two men allegedly approached him.


The accused were identified as Mohammad Sabeel Ansari (25), a resident near Masjid Bakar Kasab, and Mohammad Atique (24), a resident near Kamal Baba Dargah, both from Mominpura. Police said the duo allegedly demanded money from the complainant to purchase liquor. When Ansari refused, the accused reportedly abused and assaulted him before threatening him with a knife. They then allegedly snatched Rs 2,000 from his pocket and fled the scene.


Following the complaint, Tehsil Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Arms Act and the Maharashtra Police Act. During the investigation, police traced and detained accused Mohammad Atique. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to committing the robbery in connivance with the co-accused. Atique has been arrested, while efforts are underway to trace the remaining accused. Further investigation is in progress.
