Nagpur FDA Seizes Misbranded ‘Ready To Serve Drinks’ Stock Worth ₹55.68 Lakh, Inspects Skin & Hair Clinic in Dhantoli

Nagpur: In a major enforcement drive aimed at ensuring the availability of safe food products to consumers, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Nagpur, seized suspected food products, including misbranded Enerzal drinks, nutraceuticals, and prohibited food items worth over ₹58.42 lakh across various locations in Nagpur district on June 3.


The action was carried out under the directions and guidance of Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe. During the operation, FDA officials collected food samples for laboratory analysis and confiscated the remaining stock of suspected and prohibited products.


According to the FDA, a total of 36,366 litres of Ready-to-Serve Fruit Beverage (Enerzal) worth ₹55.67 lakh536 strips and 22 plastic jars of nutraceutical products worth ₹1.42 lakh, and 161 kg of prohibited food products valued at ₹1.31 lakh were seized. The combined value of the confiscated stock stood at ₹58.42 lakh.


The operation was initiated following intelligence inputs received by the FDA’s Intelligence Wing. A team led by Assistant Commissioner (Intelligence) Yaduraj Dahatonde, along with Food Safety Officers Lalit SoyamRavsaheb Wakde, and local Food Safety Officer Mahesh Chahande, inspected the premises of FDC Limited at Sonegaon MIDC, Hingna, Nagpur.


During the inspection, officials found that the product Enerzal was being marketed with the label “Energy and Electrolyte Drink,” which was allegedly inconsistent with food labelling regulations, making it a misbranded food product. The FDA stated that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) had already issued a communication on May 26, 2026, to the manufacturer, FDC Limited, Waluj, Aurangabad, informing the company that Enerzal was classified as a misbranded product and directing it to take corrective action.


Despite the communication, the sale of the product allegedly continued through FDC Limited’s Nagpur distribution unit. Consequently, FDA officials collected 10 samples of various Enerzal products, including Orange, Blitz, Apple and Lime flavours, for laboratory testing. Simultaneously, they seized 1,79,627 bottles and packets of the products, valued at approximately ₹55.68 lakh.


In another operation, FDA officials inspected New Roots Skin Laser and Hair Clinic located in Dhantoli, Nagpur. Four samples of nutraceutical products were collected for analysis, while stocks comprising 536 strips and 22 plastic jars worth ₹1.42 lakh were seized.


The department also conducted inspections at multiple establishments across the district and confiscated 161 kg of prohibited food products valued at ₹1.31 lakh.


The drive was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner (Intelligence) Yaduraj Dahatonde and Joint Commissioner (Nagpur Division) Krishna Jaipurekar. The enforcement team included Food Safety Officers Lalit SoyamRavsaheb WakdeMahesh ChahandeR.B. Yadav, and K.S. Sonewane.


FDA officials said all collected samples have been sent to a laboratory for analysis. Further legal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 will be initiated upon receipt of the test reports.


The administration stated that such enforcement drives will continue regularly across Nagpur district. Citizens have been urged to immediately report any suspicion regarding the quality of food products to the FDA Nagpur office or through the toll-free helpline 1800-222-365.
