Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has initiated a large-scale anti-encroachment drive across the city to clear illegal structures and free up footpaths for pedestrian movement. The operation aims to ensure safe, unobstructed pathways for citizens and reduce congestion caused by unauthorized vendors and shop extensions.
Under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, the NMC’s Enforcement Department has deployed 15 dedicated teams citywide. This includes 10 zone-wise teams and 5 headquarters-level teams for major intervention across critical locations.
Why the Drive Was Launched
Several footpaths in Nagpur have been encroached upon, making it impossible for pedestrians to walk safely. The renewed crackdown focuses on:
- Clearing illegal stalls and street vendors from footpaths
- Removing goods displayed outside shops
- Preventing traffic congestion caused by encroachments
- Ensuring safe and accessible pedestrian pathways
Appeal to Shopkeepers and Vendors
The NMC Enforcement Department has urged shopkeepers and hawkers to:
- Remove unauthorized structures voluntarily
- Stop placing goods outside their shops
- Cooperate with municipal teams to keep walkways clear
The department emphasized that footpaths are public property meant for citizens’ convenience, and any encroachment directly impacts public safety and traffic flow.
