Nagpur: A new and well-equipped building for the Shivangaon Primary and Upper Primary Municipal School has been completed in the Chinchbhavan area under Ward No. 35 of the Dhantoli Zone. The newly constructed facility was inspected on Wednesday by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Standing Committee Chairperson Shivani Dani.

The school building is expected to begin functioning from the upcoming academic session and will provide modern educational facilities to students from Shivangaon and Chinchbhavan areas.

During the inspection, Additional Commissioner Vaishnavi B., Deputy Commissioner Dr. Meghna Vasankar, Executive Engineer Manoj Singh, Assistant Education Officer Subhash Upase, Deputy Engineer Sachin Chamate, Project Management Consultant Ankit Ashtankar, Akanksha Foundation representative Somsurav Chatterjee, and Vinay Bagale were present.

Shivangaon village in Nagpur was acquired under the MIHAN project, and to ensure continued access to education for children from the village, the NMC constructed this new school building in the Chinchbhavan area. Built on a 7,912-square-meter plot, the facility aims to provide quality education to students from economically weaker and underprivileged backgrounds.

Although the original plan proposed a four-storey building, construction of two floors has currently been completed. The building now includes 10 classrooms and three laboratory halls, with provisions for further expansion as per the original design.

Focus on Improving Quality of Marathi Schools: Shivani Dani

After inspecting the premises, Shivani Dani emphasized the need to improve the academic standards of Marathi-medium schools along with English-medium institutions. She instructed officials to take concrete steps to enhance the quality of education in Marathi schools in order to preserve Marathi language and culture.

Dani noted that the new municipal school building is comparable to private schools in terms of infrastructure. The facility features spacious playgrounds and well-ventilated classrooms, which will greatly benefit students in the surrounding areas.

She also stated that under the Akanksha initiative, efforts will be made to establish more English-medium schools in the city and encourage reputed educational institutions to operate English schools in collaboration with the NMC.

From the next academic session, the building will house classes for Bapuraoji Bobde English School (run by the Akanksha Foundation) as well as Shivangaon Primary and Upper Primary School.
