Nagpur: Mankapur Police have registered a case against a 25-year-old woman for allegedly creating a fake Instagram account and using it to circulate the private photographs and defamatory content of a young man following a dispute between the two, police said.
According to the complaint, the accused, a 25-year-old woman from the Godhni railway area, was reportedly friends with the complainant’s son. After a quarrel between the two, the woman allegedly used the email ID and mobile number of her friend to create a fake Instagram account named “doctor-of-drug.”
Police said the accused allegedly uploaded or circulated the young man’s personal and private photographs along with defamatory messages through social media. The content was also allegedly sent to the complainant’s relatives, causing reputational harm.
The incident reportedly occurred between June 10 and July 11, while the complaint was registered on August 12.
The victim’s father, a 54-year-old man from the Katol Road area, approached the police, following which Mankapur Police registered a case under Section 356(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.
Police are investigating the alleged use of another person’s email ID and mobile number to create the fake social media account.
