Nagpur: A 40-year-old woman has accused two men of allegedly cheating her of ₹10.46 lakh, sexually assaulting her on the pretext of marriage and subjecting her to caste-based abuse and threats. A case has been registered at Panchpaoli Police Station against Mohammad Shafaat Sheikh Akhtar Sheikh (28) and Mohammad Naved Sheikh Akhtar Sheikh (26).
According to the complaint, the woman was acquainted with both accused. They allegedly gained her trust by promising to undertake construction work on her house and invest money in a plot-related business, claiming that her investment would be doubled.
The accused allegedly collected ₹10,46,421 from the woman on several occasions. Police said Mohammad Shafaat allegedly lured her with a promise of marriage and took her to two locations, where he allegedly established physical relations with her against her wishes.
When the woman demanded her money back, Shafaat allegedly returned only ₹61,900, while allegedly withholding the remaining ₹9,67,921.
The woman further alleged that when she demanded repayment, the accused refused and allegedly abused her using caste-related remarks and threatened her. According to the complaint, Shafaat allegedly told her that he did not want to marry her because she belonged to the Mahar community.
The complaint further states that Mohammad Naved later came to know about the alleged physical relationship between the woman and Shafaat. He allegedly threatened to defame her by informing others about the relationship unless she agreed to have physical relations with him.
Naved allegedly took the woman to Space Inn Hotel in Jaripatka, where he allegedly established physical relations with her against her wishes.
The woman subsequently demanded repayment of her money from both accused. However, they allegedly refused, subjected her to caste-based abuse and threatened her with dire consequences.
Panchpaoli police have registered a case under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 352, 351(2), 64(2), 308(3), 318(4) and 3(5), along with provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
