Kalamna woman suffers injuries to neck, face and hands; accused booked for attempted murder

Nagpur: A 38-year-old widow was seriously injured after her alleged lover attacked her with a knife following an argument over suspicion that she was having an affair with another man in Kalamna on Monday evening.

The accused has been identified as Jitu, around 40, a resident of Prajapati Square under Pardi police station limits. Kalamna police have registered a case against him under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempted murder, along with relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act.

According to police, the victim's husband had died a few years ago and she was allegedly in a relationship with Jitu. At around 5.45 pm on September 14, the two met near Sai Nagar Nala, beside a matching centre in Kalamna, where an argument broke out.

During the altercation, Jitu allegedly accused the woman of having an affair with another man. Police said he became enraged and allegedly attacked her with a knife with the intention of killing her.

The woman sustained multiple injuries to her neck, face and hands in the attack. She was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.

The FIR was registered on the complaint of the victim's son.

Police said the accused has no previous criminal record. Further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances leading to the knife attack and trace the accused.
