Nagpur: The Second Capital of the State is set to witness major improvements in healthcare access, patient assistance, nutrition programs, and welfare delivery as the Maharashtra Government has entered into significant partnerships with Tata Trusts and the Naam Foundation.
Through these collaborations, needy patients in Nagpur will receive financial support via agreements with six accredited hospitals, while several state-led development programs will be strengthened with the help of these NGOs. This initiative marks the beginning of a large-scale transformation that will extend from Nagpur to the rest of Maharashtra.
The partnerships were formalized with the signing of 12 MoUs with Tata Trusts and one with the Naam Foundation in a ceremony held at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai on Thursday, Febraury 12. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said these collaborations will accelerate Maharashtra’s development across key sectors such as health, nutrition, water conservation, rural livelihoods, and emergency response systems.
He added that the support of Tata Trusts has made it possible to ensure that no citizen loses their life due to lack of treatment as affordable medical care will now become more accessible.
Fadnavis noted that the State has been working with Tata Trusts for nearly a decade, emphasizing that their contribution goes beyond financial aid to include impactful ground-level work. The new agreements aim to strengthen maternal and child health services, expand telemedicine, reduce stunting and malnutrition, diversify nutritional support, and promote sustainable agricultural and livestock practices across rural Maharashtra.
He also highlighted the vital role of the Naam Foundation, which has carried out extensive water conservation activities in Vidarbha and Marathwada—including desilting water bodies, deepening streams, and supporting the successful Jalyukt Shivar initiative. Tata Trusts also assisted in these efforts, providing crucial support in water-scarcity regions.
Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata said the collaboration will bring better coordination in sectors such as health, education, nutrition, water, sanitation, and livelihoods. He stated that the MoUs represent a strategic step toward integrated development in Maharashtra. Naam Foundation founder Nana Patekar expressed satisfaction with the support received for water conservation projects.
Key officials present at the event included Chief Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal, Health Secretary Dr. Nipun Vinayak, WCD Secretary Anupkumar Yadav, and Tata Trusts CEO Siddharth Sharma.
The MoUs aim to strengthen last-mile connectivity for welfare schemes, improve emergency healthcare access, support malnutrition reduction efforts, rejuvenate water bodies, and promote climate-resilient agriculture. Special focus will be placed on drought-prone regions and underdeveloped districts like Gadchiroli.
The 12 MoUs with Tata Trusts cover departments such as Rural Development, Water Conservation, Public Health, Women & Child Development, and the Gadchiroli District Administration, along with agreements involving major medical institutions such as AIIMS Nagpur, National Cancer Institute Nagpur, CIIMS, CARE Hospitals, Swami Vivekanand Medical Mission, and Midas Multispeciality Hospital. The Naam Foundation signed a separate MoU with the Water Conservation Department.
