Nagpur: Acting on the notification issued by Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) on October 6, Nagpur Police inspected cafes, restaurants and hotels across the city on October 8 and initiated action against establishments allegedly violating the prescribed guidelines.
According to the action report, police teams inspected 17 cafes and booked a total of 20 people in connection with alleged violations. Cases were registered under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with disobedience to orders duly promulgated by a public servant.
The establishments where police took action included Partner’s Cafe, Cafe O’Bllis, C3 Cafe Culture Club, Square Bucket Cafe, Cafe Bite’s, Cafe.com, Cafe Elvora, Million Dollar Cafe, Two Chairs Cafe, Eat and Bite Cafe, Eagle Cafe and Restaurant, The KKs Cafe, Cafe Crew Wings, ToF Cafe, Cafe NES, Leopold Cafe and TCH Cafe.
The action was carried out by multiple police teams led by officers from different police stations and units. Cases were registered at Nandanvan, Kotwali, Sakkardara, Ambazari, Wathoda and Ajni police stations, among others, as mentioned in the report.
The crackdown follows the Police Commissioner’s October 6 notification laying down directions for cafes, restaurants and other establishments. The latest inspections indicate that police have begun enforcing the directions through field-level checks and legal action against alleged violations.
The action is part of the police department’s efforts to ensure compliance with the newly issued guidelines and prevent establishments from being used in violation of the prescribed rules.
