Nagpur: Lakadganj Police have registered a case against a 28-year-old man for allegedly stealing ₹5 lakh in cash from the residence of an acquaintance in East Wardhaman Nagar.

According to the police complaint, the incident took place at Sukh Sagar Apartment, East Wardhaman Nagar, within the Lakadganj police station limits. The complainant, Pratik Vijaykumar Tanna (36), an auto dealer, lives in Flat No. 201 of the apartment.

Police said Tanna had known the accused, Rahul Babusingh Rajpurohit (28), a resident of Manish Nagar, Nagpur, for nearly five years. Rajpurohit allegedly used to visit Tanna’s house regularly.

On October 2, Tanna had gone to Vaishnodevi Chowk to meet his friend Pawan Prajapati. During his absence, his mother, Anu Tanna, allegedly called him and informed him that Rajpurohit had visited their house and left shortly afterwards.

When Tanna returned home and checked the cupboard, he allegedly found that ₹5 lakh kept inside it was missing. He subsequently suspected Rajpurohit of entering the house through the open door and stealing the cash.

Based on Tanna’s complaint, Lakadganj Police registered a case under Section 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with the relevant provision mentioned in the complaint, and began further investigation.
