Nagpur: Instagram Friendship Turns Threatening as Man Allegedly Threatens Married Woman, Sets Bedroom on Fire

Nagpur: Khaparkheda police have registered a case against a 21-year-old man for allegedly threatening to kill a 24-year-old married woman and her family before setting fire to the bedroom of her house after she stopped communicating with him.


According to the police, the woman is married and her husband works as contractual employee. She had become acquainted with the accused, Sudhir Dipak Rajgire (21), a resident of Shukrawari Chowk, Bhandara, through Instagram. The two subsequently became friends and communicated through chats and phone calls.


Police said Rajgire allegedly attempted to become closer to the woman. However, after he allegedly used abusive language while speaking to her, she stopped communicating with him.


The accused allegedly began calling her from another mobile number and repeatedly threatened her, saying that he would kill her and her family if she did not speak to him.


On September 16, when the woman’s husband had gone to work, the accused allegedly called her and threatened to kill her while using abusive language. He then allegedly set fire to the bedroom of her house through a window, causing damage to the property.


Based on the woman’s complaint, Khaparkheda police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 351(2)(3), 296, 78 and 326(g). Further investigation is underway.
