Nagpur: Elderly Woman Mauled to Death by Tiger in Deolapar; ₹10 Lakh Compensation Handed to Kin

Nagpur: In yet another tragic incident of man-animal conflict, a 67-year-old woman was mauled to death by a tiger while working in a cotton field near Deolapar on Tuesday morning, October 28.


According to forest officials, the deceased, Vimla Kashinath Einwate, a resident of Lohdongri, was picking cotton in a farm located in Survey No. 268/2, Plot No. 29 of Mouza Deolapar around 9:10 am when a tiger from the adjacent reserved forest compartment no. 581 attacked her and dragged her into the nearby forest area, killing her on the spot.


Following the incident, forest staff reached the site and installed camera traps to monitor tiger movement. The victim’s body was later shifted to Sub-District Hospital, Ramtek for post-mortem examination. After completion of the autopsy, the body was handed over to the family through the police for final rites.


Under the guidance of Dr. Vinita Vyas (IFS), Deputy Conservator of Forests, Nagpur (Territorial), a compensation cheque of ₹10 lakh was handed over to the deceased’s family by J.F. Luche, Assistant Conservator of Forests (Range-1), Ramtek.


Present on the occasion were Santosh Gaikwad (Deputy Superintendent of Police), Avinash Londhe (Honorary Wildlife Warden, Nagpur District), S.B. Toole (Range Forest Officer, Deolapar), S.S. Bansod (RFO, Paoni), Shinde (RFO, Ramtek), and Thakre (RFO, Integrated Wildlife Control, Paoni).


The Deputy Conservator has instructed the forest personnel to intensify patrolling and tiger monitoring in the region and urged local residents to remain alert and avoid venturing near forest boundaries during early morning and late evening hours.
