Nagpur: The ‘Maha Cyber Security and Awareness Camp’ was successfully organized on October 27 at Suresh Bhat Auditorium, Reshimbagh, under the chairmanship of Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal. The initiative was part of the city police’s ongoing efforts to raise public awareness about cybercrime and enhance digital safety among citizens.
The event, conceptualized by Commissioner Singal, aims to ensure that Nagpur citizens become cyber-aware, understand the risks of online fraud, and help curb rising incidents of cybercrime. The program was jointly organized by the Cyber Police Station, Nagpur, and saw participation from a large number of police officials, citizens, and students.
The chief guests for the event were Sandeep Patil, Inspector General of Police, Gadchiroli Range, and Amit Kumar Dubey, a globally renowned cybersecurity expert and speaker from New Delhi. They were felicitated by the Police Commissioner with saplings and mementoes at the opening ceremony.
Citizens lose ₹30 lakh daily to cybercrimes: DCP Lohit Matani
In his opening remarks, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic & Cyber) Lohit Matani highlighted the alarming growth of cybercrime, stating that victims collectively lose up to ₹30 lakh daily due to online scams and frauds.
He emphasized the need for widespread cyber awareness, particularly among youth, to prevent such crimes. “This camp will equip students, citizens, and police personnel with practical knowledge to safeguard against cyber threats and enhance investigation efficiency,” he said.
Officers recognized for outstanding cyber investigation
During the event, several officers and staff from the Cyber Police Station were felicitated for exemplary work.
Among those honoured were PI Baliram Sutar for exceptional investigation, PSIs Sandeep Bagul, Vijay Rane, and Shankar Pandhare for detection excellence, and HC Atul Agarkar and WPC Shraddha Dhomne for conducting awareness programs in schools and colleges. WPC Rekha Yadav was also recognized for her outstanding work on the NCR portal.
AI can strengthen cyber investigations: Expert Amit Dubey
Delivering an engaging session, cyber expert Amit Dubey shared insights on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in investigations and the evolving nature of cyber threats. He guided participants on preventive measures, digital hygiene, and how to stay alert against online frauds and phishing traps.
Police Commissioner calls for ‘cyber literacy for all’
Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Singal emphasized that every individual must become cyber literate to stay protected in the digital era. He also encouraged police personnel to enhance their understanding of AI-based technologies like ChatGPT to strengthen future investigations.
The event was attended by Additional Commissioner of Police (North) Rajendra Dabhade, DCPs Lohit Matani, Rahul Madne, Dr. Sandeep Patil, Niketan Kadam, Mahak Swami, and Deepak Agrawal, along with all Assistant Commissioners, Senior Police Inspectors, NGO representatives, and hundreds of college and school students.
The program was compered by PSI Maroti Shelke, and the vote of thanks was proposed by DCP (Headquarters) Deepak Agrawal. The event concluded with the National Anthem.
