Nagpur: Crime Branch Anti-Housebreaking Squad successfully apprehended a habitual offender within 10 hours of a burglary and recovered stolen valuables worth ₹22.83 lakh. The recovered items include 259 grams of gold jewellery, ₹4 lakh in cash, and other valuables.
According to police sources, on November 29, between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM, complainant Priti Charudatt Kamble, aged 52, a resident of Sai Krupa Apartment in Rathod Layout, Anant Nagar, Gittikhadan, locked her flat and left for the Bank of India branch in Anant Nagar.
Upon her return, she found the lock on her flat’s door broken and the bedroom in disarray. Gold jewelry and cash worth ₹8.51 lakh were missing from the wooden wardrobe. A complaint was promptly lodged at Gittikhadan Police Station under case number 937/24, registered under sections 331(3) and 305(a) of the BNS.
Acting on the complaint, the Crime Branch team began a parallel investigation. Within hours, they apprehended the accused, Roshan Sevakdas Meshram, aged 41, a resident of Gittikhadan. During interrogation, Meshram confessed to the crime, and the police recovered stolen items, including gold, cash, silver ornaments, a Jupiter two-wheeler used in the crime, and two iron rods.
The total recovered goods are valued at ₹22,83,600, including jewellery, cash, and items used in the crime.
This operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Singal, Joint Commissioner Nisar Tamboli, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjay Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Rahul Makhnikar, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Sudhir Nandanwar.
The team included Police Inspector Ravindra Naikwad, and personnel Shrikant Uike, Prashant Gabhne, Pravin Rode, Nilesh Shripatre, Sudhir Saundadkar, Ashish Wankhade, Sudhir Pawar, and Lata Gavai.
The accused and recovered items have been handed over to the Gittikhadan Police Station for further investigation.
