Nagpur: Acting swiftly, the Crime Branch Unit 4 of Nagpur Police arrested two men within 24 hours for allegedly assaulting an auto driver and snatching his chain and cash in Sakkardara area. The accused have been identified as Ayaan Ali (22), a resident of Hasanbagh, and Danish Sheikh (19), a resident of Tajbagh.
The incident took place around 5:45 pm on Wednesday, June 12, when the complainant, Vishal Munje (39), an auto-rickshaw driver from Bhole Baba Nagar, Hudkeshwar, was waiting for online passengers near Smile Dental Hospital in Sakkardara.
Two unidentified men approached him on a moped (MH-49-CE-9603) and asked to be dropped at Tukdoji Square. When Munje refused, stating he only took online bookings, the duo abused and threatened him, forcibly entered the auto, assaulted him, and snatched a silver chain from his neck and ₹300 in cash — totaling a theft of ₹2,100.
Based on his complaint, Sakkardara Police registered a case under Sections 309(4), 296, 115(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
During the parallel investigation, Crime Branch Unit 4 received reliable inputs and tracked the suspects. A team led by PI Kamalakar Gaddime laid a trap and apprehended the duo. Upon interrogation, they confessed to the robbery. Police also recovered the stolen silver chain and a mobile phone worth approximately ₹3,100 from their possession.
The accused have been handed over to Sakkardara Police for further investigation.
