Nagpur Central Jail Celebrates Ambedkar Jayanti With Cultural Programmes; Inmates Perform Plays, Songs and Art Exhibits

Nagpur: The 135th birth anniversary of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was celebrated with enthusiasm and a series of cultural and educational programs at Nagpur Central Jail on April 14, 2026.


The event was organised under the guidance of Additional Director General of Police and Director General of Prisons Suhas Warke, Special Inspector General of Prisons Desai, and Deputy Inspector General of Prisons (Eastern Region, Nagpur) Vaibhav Aagey.


The program commenced with floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar’s portrait, followed by a solemn Buddha Vandana performed by inmates, officers, and staff under the guidance of Bhanteji.


A highlight of the event was the staging of a one-man theatrical performance titled “Mee Samvidhan Boltoy Ahe” by noted playwright Saire. The powerful act shed light on Dr. Ambedkar’s life, his contribution to the nation, and the core values enshrined in the Indian Constitution. The program concluded with a collective reading of the Constitution.


Addressing the gathering, Jail Superintendent Vaibhav Aagey urged inmates to adopt the ideals of Dr. Ambedkar in their lives and take advantage of the various educational and skill development initiatives available within the prison.


In the cultural segment, inmates presented Bhim Geet and traditional Bhim dance, creating an inspiring atmosphere. They also showcased artistic talent by creating a replica of Deekshabhoomi using waste paper, along with models of Gautam Buddha and the Dhammachakra, which drew appreciation from attendees.


The event witnessed active participation from prison officials, staff, and inmates, reflecting a spirit of reform and inspiration. Special efforts for the successful organisation were taken by Additional Superintendent Deepa Aagey, Senior Jail Officer Anand Pansare, and other officers including Shinde, Raut, Jogdande, Nimje, and Bhosale.


Retired Senior Jail Officer Pillewan also attended the program as a special guest.


The celebration concluded on a high note, marking a meaningful tribute to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar within the prison premises.
