Nagpur: The redevelopment of Ajni railway station in Nagpur, Maharashtra, is set to be completed four months ahead of schedule. The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), under the Ministry of Railways, is making substantial progress in upgrading the station.
Ajni, serving as a satellite station for Nagpur, is a critical part of the Central Railway's Nagpur Division. The RLDA aims to provide top-notch facilities for passengers, incorporating modern designs with green building concepts and amenities friendly to Divyangjan (persons with disabilities).
Despite the complexities of this brownfield project, all preparatory work and utility shifting have been completed.
"Construction on both the eastern and western sides of the station is progressing as planned. The project is set to be completed four months ahead of its scheduled date as per the EPC contract," the RLDA announced in a release on Friday.
Key features of the redeveloped station include:
- Passenger Capacity: The station is designed to accommodate 45,000 passengers daily.
- Arrival and Departure Plazas: Two dedicated 10-meter-wide FOBs for arriving passengers will connect with arrival lobbies on both sides of the station. These FOBs, along with a 72-meter-wide concourse and an 18-meter-wide central FOB equipped with travellators, will connect each platform via escalators, lifts, and staircases.
- West Side Facilities: A G+2 departure and arrival plaza will include 3,679 square meters of surface parking and a circulating area with drop-off and pick-up zones to facilitate smooth movement of taxis, cars, and autos.
The project continues to move forward efficiently, ensuring enhanced facilities for passengers well ahead of the initial timeline.
