Nagpur: A six-year-old girl died after falling from the second floor of an under-construction building in Nagpur’s Imamwada area, following which police registered a case against the Rai Udyog Complex contractor and builder, alleging serious lapses in safety measures.

The deceased has been identified as Rashi Manoj Nevaware (6). The incident occurred on May 15, 2026, at the Rai Udyog Complex near Sardar Patel Chowk, under the jurisdiction of Imamwada Police Station.

According to police, Rashi was staying with her mother, Sushma Manoj Nevaware, on the second floor of the under-construction building. On May 15, Rashi was reportedly playing on the second floor when she lost her balance and fell to the ground.

She sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur, where doctors examined her and declared her dead.

Following her death, Imamwada Police had initially registered an accidental death report (ADR) under the relevant provision of law. During the subsequent inquiry, police allegedly found that inadequate safety arrangements at the construction site had contributed to the fatal accident.

Police said Sachin Vasant Gudhe, the contractor, had allegedly provided accommodation on the second floor of the building to the deceased girl and her mother without installing adequate parapet walls, safety nets, protective barriers or other safety equipment.

Investigators further alleged that workers and their families were being accommodated at a hazardous construction site without sufficient safety arrangements.

The second accused, identified as Kishor Gopichand Rai, the builder of Rai Udyog Complex, allegedly failed to ensure adequate protective walls, safety nets or other barriers to protect workers and their families from falling from the building.

According to police, both accused were allegedly aware that negligence at the construction site could result in an accident and loss of life, yet failed to take necessary precautions.

Following the inquiry, Imamwada Police registered a case under Sections 106(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
