Nagpur: In a timely and sensitive intervention, personnel from Bajaj Nagar Police Station prevented a suspected suicide attempt by a mother and daughter at Ambazari Lake on Friday.

According to police officials, the incident occurred in the morning during routine patrolling duty. Constables Narendra Kevate and Pankaj Rathod, assigned to Beat Marshal Unit 2, received an emergency alert via the 112 response system at around 10:51 am. The alert indicated that two unidentified women were attempting suicide at Ambazari Lake.

Acting swiftly, the officers reached the spot without delay. They found two women, approximately aged 40 and 22, standing near the edge of the lake and visibly distressed.

Upon intervention, the police team engaged them in conversation and gained their trust. The women, identified as a mother and daughter residing in Rameshwari, revealed that they had decided to end their lives due to ongoing family and financial difficulties.

Demonstrating presence of mind and counseling skills, the officers persuaded them to abandon their suicidal intent. The police then contacted their relatives, who were called to the scene.

Since the location falls under the jurisdiction of Ambazari Police Station, the women were subsequently handed over to local police for further assistance and necessary action.

Police officials highlighted the importance of timely intervention and urged citizens facing emotional distress to seek help rather than resorting to extreme steps.
