Nagpur: A minor was caught red-handed inside a house by the homeowner after an alleged burglary attempt in the Pratap Nagar area of Nagpur, while his two accomplices managed to flee with stolen cash.

According to Pratap Nagar Police, the incident took place in the early hours of July 9 at a residence in Malviya Nagar, near the Royal Enfield Service Centre, Khamla.

The complainant, Ajay Avinash Kasture (55), an electrical contractor, had locked the iron grill gate of his house before leaving to drop his son at the airport. When he returned home, he noticed that the lock on the main entrance had been broken.

As he entered the house, Kasture found three intruders inside the bedroom. He immediately raised an alarm, prompting two of the accused to flee. However, the homeowner successfully overpowered and caught one of the accused, who was found to be a minor, and handed him over to the police. In accordance with legal provisions, the identity of the juvenile has not been disclosed.

Police said the accused had allegedly broken the lock of the iron grill door to gain entry into the house and stole ₹2,000 in cash from an iron cupboard kept inside the bedroom. The two other accused, believed to be around 22 to 24 years old, escaped with the stolen money.

Based on the complaint, Pratap Nagar Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to house-breaking, theft and common intention. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the two absconding accused, while further investigation is in progress.
