Nagpur: Continuing its crackdown on narcotics under the campaign “Operation Thunder – Let’s Unite for a Drug-Free Society,” the New Kamptee Police have arrested a 23-year-old man for possessing MD (Mephedrone) powder and seized contraband and valuables worth ₹72,900.

The action was carried out under the guidance of Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal as part of the citywide anti-drug drive targeting drug peddlers, carriers and consumers.

According to police, between 2:20 am and 3:30 am on February 11, 2026, a patrolling team from New Kamptee Police Station received specific information about a suspect moving in the jurisdiction. Acting swiftly, the team intercepted a grey moped (MH-31-HF-9713) near Sable Lawn on Kalamna Road.

The rider identified himself as Dushyant Jagdish Zharpure (23), a resident near Shani Mandir, Old Kalamna locality. During a search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, police recovered 1.22 grams of MD powder concealed in a zip-lock pouch inside the vehicle’s storage compartment.

Police also seized two mobile phones, the moped and ₹900 in cash from his possession. The total value of the seized property is estimated at ₹72,900.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that he had procured the MD powder from Gulshan Samudre (27), a resident of Kalamna village, who is currently absconding. Police said the accused was carrying the contraband for sale to earn illegal profits.

A case has been registered under Sections 8(c), 22(a) and 29 of the NDPS Act at New Kamthi Police Station. The accused has been arrested, and efforts are underway to trace the wanted supplier. Further investigation is in progress.

The operation was executed under the supervision of senior officers including Additional Commissioner Rajendra Dabhade, DCP Dr. Sandeep Pakhale and ACP Ankush Khedkar, along with the New Kamptee police team.
