Nagpur: Imamwada Police arrested a 25-year-old man for illegally carrying a deadly weapon and creating panic near the Isolation Hospital area late on Thursday night. The accused, identified as Pranay Suraj Chavan, was caught after attempting to flee from police during routine patrolling.
According to officials, police received a tip-off around 9:30 pm about a man displaying a sword in a public area. When the police team reached the spot, the suspect immediately dropped the weapon and tried to escape but was chased down and detained. A metal sword valued at approximately ₹1,000 was recovered from his possession.
Police confirmed that Chavan was openly brandishing the weapon with the intent to commit a cognizable offence and was also violating prohibitory orders in force. Acting on the incident, API Neha Kondekar registered a case under Sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act, along with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. The accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway.
Authorities have stated that strict action will continue against individuals found carrying illegal weapons in public, especially with security being heightened across the city.
