Nagpur: A tense situation arose at Wadi Police Station on Amravati Road late Wednesday night when a police staff member, stepping out to drink water, spotted a highly venomous Russell’s viper (Ghonas species) on the premises.
The officer immediately alerted other personnel, causing momentary panic inside the station.
The staff then contacted Akash Meshram, a member of the Vidarbha Sarpamitra Samiti. Meshram rushed to the Wadi Police Station and reached around 2 a.m. on Thursday to carry out the rescue operation.
After sustained effort, he successfully captured the Russell’s viper and secured it safely.
Police personnel thanked Sarpamitra Akash Meshram for his timely response and skilled handling of the situation. The snake was later released back into its natural habitat.
