Nagpur: In a crackdown on illegal gambling, the Social Security Branch (SSB) of Crime Branch, conducted a raid in the jurisdiction of Sonegaon Police Station and apprehended one individual under Section 12(A) of the Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act. The operation took place on Thursday, May 15, between 3:00 pm and 4:50 pm, near Haveli Pan Shop, Sahakar Nagar bus stop, in the Sonegaon area of Nagpur.
The accused has been identified as Mamtesh alias Golu Ram Lakhan Shambharkar (35), a resident of Old Khambala Settlement, under Rana Pratap Nagar Police Station, Nagpur.
Seized Items:
• Paper chits containing betting numbers for the illegal Kalyan Matkalottery
• Cash amounting to ₹3,700
• One black ballpoint penworth ₹5 (approx.)
• One sky blue Oppo 15 mobile phone
• One Hyundai Verna car (MH 40 AC 9189), valued at approximately ₹10,00,000
Total value of seized items: ₹10,08,705
According to officials, the accused was caught red-handed while accepting bets from locals and writing down Kalyan Matka numbers for monetary gain. His actions were found to be in violation of Section 12(A) of the Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act.
The recovered items and the accused have been handed over to Sonegaon Police Station for further legal action.
The operation was led by Police Inspector Omprakash Sontakke, with assistance from WHC Arati, NPC Sheshrao, PC Ashwin, Sameer, and Kunal from the Social Security Department.
