Nagpur: Crime Branch Unit 3 of the Nagpur City Police has taken action against an individual for allegedly possessing an illegal firearm and live ammunition within the jurisdiction of New Kamptee Police Station.
The arrested accused has been identified as Irfan Hussain Sheikh, aged 39 years, who was residing on rent at the house of Raju Gajbhiye in Anand Nagar, Ramgad under the New Kamptee police station area.
Police have also named a wanted accused, Sheikh Atiq Latif Sheikh, in connection with the case.
Firearm and Ammunition Worth Rs 56,000 Seized
During the operation, police seized the following items from the possession of the accused:
- One black-colored iron country-made pistol with magazine valued at approximately Rs 50,000
- Two live cartridges worth around Rs 6,000
The total value of the seized material is estimated at Rs 56,000.
Action Based on Secret Information
Police officials stated that acting on confidential information, Crime Branch Unit 3 detained the accused and conducted a search of his rented residence. During the search, officers recovered the illegal country-made pistol along with two live cartridges in the presence of two independent witnesses (panchas).
Following the seizure, police registered an offence under the relevant sections of the Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act. The accused, along with the seized weapon, ammunition, and related documents, has been handed over to New Kamptee Police Station for further legal action and investigation.
