The appointment comes after former NMC Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhari was transferred as the Metropolitan Commissioner of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). At present, he continues to hold additional charge as the District Collector of Nagpur.

After assuming office, Dr Vipin visited several departments at the NMC headquarters and reviewed the functioning of the civic body. He also held discussions with both Additional Commissioners, the Chief Engineer, Chief Accounts and Finance Officer, Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, and other department heads regarding ongoing civic works and administrative functioning.

Officials said the new commissioner is expected to focus on improving civic services, infrastructure development, and administrative efficiency in Nagpur city.
