Nagpur: In a major breakthrough, the Crime Branch Unit 3 of Nagpur Police arrested a 24-year-old habitual offender involved in housebreaking and vehicle theft, solving two cases in the process.
According to reports, between October 5 and October 15, 2025, unidentified burglars broke into a locked house at Plot No. 168, Priyadarshini Nagar, Rana Pratap Nagar, owned by Hemant Amin (64), who was away in Mumbai with his family. The thieves smashed the lock and latch of the main door and decamped with cash worth ₹5,000 and gold ornaments valued at ₹1,89,000, bringing the total stolen property to ₹1.94 lakh.
Following a complaint, Rana Pratap Nagar Police Station registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS. During a parallel investigation, officers from Crime Branch Unit 3, through technical surveillance, identified and detained Yash alias Baba Sanjay Bansode (24), resident of Indora, Anand Road, Jaripatka, along with a juvenile in conflict with law.
Upon interrogation, the duo confessed to committing the burglary along with Saksham Premnath Maudekar (24) of Timki and Nisar Sheikh of Nagpur, both currently absconding. The accused further revealed their involvement in a vehicle theft case under Kapil Nagar Police Station limits.
Police recovered gold ornaments, a Sony camera, and a Honda Activa scooter, worth a total of ₹6.90 lakh, from their possession. The arrested accused and seized property have been handed over to Rana Pratap Nagar Police for further investigation, while efforts are on to trace the absconding co-accused.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Police Commissioner Ravindra Kumar Singhal, Joint CP Navinchandra Reddy, Additional CP (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, DCP (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and ACP (Crime Branch) Abhijit Patil, by a team led by PI Anil Takasande.
