Nagpur: In a major breakthrough, the Crime Branch Unit 5 of Nagpur Police has arrested a history-sheeter Raja Gaus who had been absconding for nearly two weeks after a rape case was registered against him. The accused, Raja Gaus, was later handed over to Mankapur Police for further investigation.
According to police sources, the case surfaced on February 27, 2026, when a 39-year-old woman lawyer approached Mankapur Police Station with a complaint. She alleged that the accused, a resident of Yasin Plot in Sakkardara and one of her clients, had called her to his rented residence in Mankapur on December 15, 2024, on the pretext of work.
The complainant stated that Gaus allegedly offered her coffee and later sexually assaulted her at gunpoint. She further alleged that the accused also held her and her son hostage and threatened to defame her if she revealed the incident. Due to fear and intimidation, she did not report the matter immediately.
After the complaint was lodged, police registered a case and launched a search operation. However, the accused went into hiding soon after the FIR was filed.
Following sustained efforts and technical surveillance, a team of Crime Branch Unit 5, led by Police Inspector Vinayak Golhe, successfully traced and apprehended Raja Gaus from MHADA Colony in Kalamna on Tuesday morning.
Police officials confirmed that Raja Gaus is a history-sheeter with multiple serious offences registered against him. He has now been handed over to Mankapur Police, and further investigation in the case is underway.
The arrest is being seen as a significant step in ensuring justice and reinforcing confidence in law enforcement action against serious crimes in Nagpur.
