Nagpur: The Anti-Narcotics Team of the Nagpur Crime Branch arrested a 40-year-old alleged drug peddler and seized 58.6 grams of MD powder worth ₹1.75 lakh during a raid in Yashodhara Nagar on Thursday evening.
The arrested accused has been identified as Ijazuddin Siddiqui alias Riyazuddin Siddiqui (40), a resident of Hamid Nagar under Yashodhara Nagar Police Station limits. Police said Siddiqui is a history-sheeter and has 22 serious criminal cases registered against him at various police stations under the Nagpur Commissionerate.
According to police, the action was carried out between 8.20 pm and 10 pm on September 24 near the internal road in front of Building No. P/01 of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Sangharsh Nagar.
During patrolling, Police Head Constable Imran Sheikh reportedly received confidential information about the accused. Acting on the tip-off, the Anti-Narcotics Team conducted a search of Siddiqui in the presence of two independent witnesses and allegedly recovered the MD powder.
Police also seized two mobile phones worth ₹30,000 and a Scorpio car valued at ₹8 lakh. The total value of the seized property has been estimated at ₹10.06 lakh.
Yashodhara Nagar Police are registering a case under Sections 8(c), 22(c) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police have also named Aamir Mukim Malik, Karim Mukim Malik, Shibu Malik, Kaif Malik, Sagir Mohammad Latif Ansari and Osama as wanted accused in connection with the case. Police said several of the accused have previous cases registered against them under the NDPS Act.
The action was carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Team of the Nagpur Crime Branch under the supervision of Police Inspector Bharat Kshirsagar. Further investigation is underway.
