Nagpur: Nandanvan police have registered a case against a 28-year-old man from Gujarat for allegedly harassing his former girlfriend and repeatedly sharing her private photographs on social media despite an earlier police complaint against him.
The complainant, a 25-year-old woman from Nandanvan, told police that she had been in a relationship with Pratik Narendra Devane, a resident of Veraval in Gujarat’s Somnath district. During their relationship, Devane allegedly took private photographs of her.
According to the complaint, the woman ended the relationship after finding his behaviour inappropriate and later married another man. She alleged that Devane subsequently began uploading her private photographs on social media.
The woman had earlier lodged a police complaint against him over the alleged harassment. Despite this, Devane allegedly continued contacting her and her husband over the phone and abused them using obscene language.
Police said the accused also allegedly monitored the woman’s social-media activity and uploaded her private photographs on Instagram without her consent.
Based on the complaint, Nandanvan police registered a case against Devane under Sections 78, 296, 351(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 67, 66(C) and 66(E) of the Information Technology Act.
Police are investigating the alleged social-media harassment, stalking and circulation of the woman’s private photographs.
