Fruit Vendor Threatened for Extortion in Dahi Bazaar; Accused Arrested

Nagpur: Shantinagar Police arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly demanding extortion money and threatening a fruit vendor in the Dahi Bazaar area of the city.


The incident took place around 2 pm on December 29, 2025, at Dalalpura Chowk, Dahi Bazaar. The complainant, Mohammad Jamil Mohammad Zakir Bagwan (42), a resident of Itwari, was present at his fruit stall when the accused, Mohammad Usman Mohammad Sabir Sheikh, approached him and demanded money.


When the vendor refused, the accused allegedly attempted to forcibly remove cash from the stall’s drawer and threatened him, saying he would not be allowed to run the stall unless extortion money was paid.


Based on the complaint, Shantinagar Police registered a case under Sections 308(3) and 309(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused was traced and arrested promptly. Further investigation is underway.
