Nagpur: In a significant development, former Minister and MLA Bacchu Kadu has decided to cancel his proposed “Rail Roko Andolan” following directions and observations made by the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court on Thursday. The Court appreciated the decision, calling it “a good gesture” that would “set an example” for others.

The matter was heard by Justice Rajnish R. Vyas on October 30, 2025, in connection with a petition concerning possible disruption to public life due to Kadu’s proposed agitation. During the hearing, Advocate Hariom Dhage, appearing for Bacchu Kadu, submitted that his client had decided to withdraw the planned protest in the interest of maintaining peace and public order. The Court accepted this statement as an undertaking.

Earlier, Commissioner of Police, Nagpur City — Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal had filed an affidavit informing the Court that normal traffic movement on National Highway 44 and other blocked roads had been peacefully restored following recent farmer protests. However, he had expressed concern that a “Rail Roko” agitation could severely affect law and order and disrupt train services.

Taking note of the police concerns, the Court had directed notices to several authorities, including the Ministry of Railways, Central Railway, Railway Protection Force (RPF), and Government Railway Police (GRP), instructing them to coordinate and ensure that no inconvenience was caused to citizens.

Justice Vyas emphasized that the safety and rights of citizens must remain paramount, and all departments — including the police, railway, and local administration — must work together to prevent any untoward incidents.

The Court recorded Kadu’s decision to cancel the agitation as a positive step, remarking that such conduct would “set an example” for others. The matter has been posted for further consideration on October 31, 2025.
