Akola: Strengthening law enforcement with cutting-edge technology, Akola Police have inaugurated three major initiatives—Project TRINETRA, a citywide CCTV Command and Control Centre, and the Raksha Project—that officials say will serve as a model for Maharashtra.
State Labour Minister and Akola Guardian Minister Adv. Akash Fundkar launched the projects at the Superintendent of Police (SP) office on Wednesday, praising them as “path-breaking initiatives that will guide the entire state.” District Collector Varsha Meena, SP Archit Chandak, Additional SP C.K. Reddy, tech entrepreneur Kishan Panpaliya, IT expert Manish Karandikar, and Local Crime Branch chief Shankar Shelke were present at the ceremony.
AI-Driven Predictive Policing
Highlighting the flagship Project TRINETRA, SP Archit Chandak said, “Feeling proud to share that Akola Police has started Project TRINETRA – India’s first AI-based predictive policing ecosystem. Data of repeat offenders over the past 10 years is fully digitised and a Repeat Offender Risk Score (RORS) is developed based on crime type, severity, frequency, and preventive action. An alert and continuous monitoring system is now in place.”
The AI platform also offers crime profiling, age-based analysis, hotspot mapping, and police-station-wise performance insights, enabling a shift from reactive to predictive policing. Chandak credited Kishan Panpaliya, a Forbes Under-30 honoree and Akola resident, for his pro bono technical support that “has given Akola Police the tech wings to fly.”
CCTV Command Centre
According to Minister Fundkar, the upgraded CCTV network will provide high-resolution, real-time surveillance of key public locations across the city. “This will make tracking criminals easier and strengthen crime detection rates,” he said. The Command Centre at the SP office will monitor the entire network for rapid response.
‘Raksha’ Citizen Feedback Project
The Raksha Project introduces a QR-code-based system at every police station to ensure citizen-centric policing. Visitors can scan the code to confidentially submit feedback or complaints about staff behaviour or unresolved issues, helping to make police operations more transparent and accountable.
Recognition for Crime Branch Team
During the event, Minister Fundkar felicitated Police Inspector Shankar Shelke and his Local Crime Branch team, who travelled 5,000 km to arrest a suspect in a Ganesh Visarjan assault case, underscoring Akola Police’s dedication to swift justice.
Officials confirmed that the state government will recommend these projects for implementation across Maharashtra, citing their potential to improve transparency, rehabilitation efforts, and crime prevention.
