Nagpur: In a major infrastructure push for Vidarbha, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to construct a network of access-controlled expressways worth over ₹56,000 crore. The 447-km-long corridors will connect Nagpur with Gondia, Bhandara, Gadchiroli and Chandrapur, mirroring the high-speed Nagpur–Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway.
According to officials, tenders for all projects have been awarded and land acquisition will begin soon. Designed for speeds up to 120 km per hour, the new routes will feature limited entry and exit points via dedicated interchanges, ensuring seamless high-speed travel.
Key Corridors and Costs:
- Nagpur–Gondia Expressway: A 162-km, six-lane corridor costing ₹21,670 crore. It will include a Tiroda connector and a Gondia bypass, reducing travel time to just two hours.
- Sawarkhanda–Gadchiroli Link: Spanning 94 km with six lanes initially tapering to four, this route near Bhandara will cost around ₹12,900 crore.
- Nagpur–Chandrapur Expressway: Covering 191 km and estimated at ₹21,700 crore, this four-lane highway will connect Ballarpur, Gondpipri and Pandharkawda along the Nagpur–Hyderabad national highway.
The ambitious plan places Vidarbha on the fast track to enhanced connectivity and economic growth, while underscoring the state government’s commitment to developing world-class transport infrastructure in the region.
