Nagpur: As summer temperatures soar, many households are turning to air coolers for relief. However, improper usage can lead to electrical hazards, warns Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). To prevent electric shocks and fire accidents, MSEDCL has issued essential safety guidelines for cooler users.
Key Safety Measures for Cooler Usage
• Check Earthing & Wiring: Ensure your home has proper earthing and get wiring inspected by a certified electrician before using a cooler. Always use a three-pin plug to reduce shock risks.
• Use ISI-Certified Coolers Only: Non-ISI marked coolers can pose serious electrical hazards. Always opt for an ISI-certified cooler for safety.
• Install an ELCB (Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker): This device automatically disconnects power in case of a current leak, preventing potential shocks and fatalities.
• Regular Maintenance is a Must: Periodically check your cooler’s wiring, plugs, and connections. Never use extension cords to power your cooler.
• Water and Electricity Don’t Mix: Always unplug the cooler before refilling water. Avoid touching it with wet hands and prevent water from spilling on electrical parts.
• Emergency Response: If someone gets an electric shock, do not touch them directly. Use a dry wooden object to separate them from the cooler and seek immediate medical assistance.
