The Mumbai Police announced on Tuesday that they have reached out to podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia and YouTuber Samay Raina, summoning them for an inquiry regarding a controversial remark made by Allahbadia during the ‘India’s Got Latent’ show, which is hosted by Raina. A senior police official confirmed this development to The Nagpur News.
Allahbadia, widely recognized for his channel BeerBiceps, made the remarks while appearing as a guest alongside fellow content creators Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija in a recent episode.
Clips of his allegedly inappropriate and offensive jokes went viral on social media on Sunday, triggering widespread backlash. The controversy has fueled discussions about the boundaries of free speech and the need for stricter content regulations on OTT platforms. The show has faced strong criticism from politicians, human and women’s rights organizations, celebrities, artists, and the general public.
Adding to the growing outrage, Odisha Deputy Chief Minister and Women and Child Development Minister Pravati Parida weighed in on the issue. Speaking to PTI, she condemned the remarks, stating, "This is very sad. Interaction on social media should be such that no one is hurt. Such behavior should invite action. The Women Commission should take action over this."
Amid the escalating controversy, the central government has intervened. Kanchan Gupta, a senior advisor to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, confirmed in a post on X that the controversial episode of India’s Got Latent has been removed from YouTube following government orders.
