Nagpur: A 16-year-old boy drowned while swimming in a quarry water body near Pitesur, opposite Swaraj Farm, under the jurisdiction of Gittikhadan Police Station during Sunday outing with friends.

The deceased has been identified as Aryan Chandrashekhar Patel (16), a resident of Siddiqui Layout, Godhani.

According to police, Aryan had gone to the quarry along with a friend for swimming on Sunday when he accidentally drowned in the deep water. Upon receiving information, police and locals retrieved the body from the water and sent it to Mayo Hospital for further medico-legal procedures.

Based on a complaint lodged by the boy’s father, Chandrashekhar Sheshrao Patel (39), Gittikhadan Police registered an accidental death case. Assistant Sub-Inspector Chaudkhan Pathan is conducting further investigation into the incident.

Police have once again appealed to citizens, particularly youngsters, to avoid venturing into abandoned quarries and unsafe water bodies to prevent such tragic incidents.
