Nagpur: The Nagpur Police Commissionerate’s Zone 4 has recorded a significant decline in serious crimes in 2025, registering an overall reduction of 832 cases — a sharp 31% drop — compared to 2024. The improvement has been attributed to sustained, technology-driven and people-centric policing initiatives implemented under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rashimtha Rao N. (IPS).
According to official data released by the police department, serious crimes reported across Zones 1 to 5 under DCP Zone 4 jurisdiction saw notable declines across multiple categories. Major reductions were recorded in house break-ins, motor vehicle thefts, robberies, murders, attempts to murder, rape, molestation, fraud, kidnapping, and fatal road accidents.
Crime-wise Comparison: 2024 vs 2025
- House break-ins: Down by 131 cases (from 374 to 243)
- Motor vehicle theft: Reduced by 108 cases (from 496 to 388)
- Robbery: Declined by 30 cases (from 60 to 30)
- Attempt to murder: Reduced by 24 cases (from 47 to 23)
- Murder: Down by 8 cases (from 31 to 23)
- Rape: Reduced by 19 cases (from 73 to 54)
- Molestation of women: Down by 30 cases (from 123 to 93)
- Fraud: Declined by 50 cases (from 153 to 103)
- Grievous hurt: Reduced by 45 cases (from 262 to 220)
- Kidnapping: Down by 23 cases (from 132 to 109)
- Fatal accidents: Reduced by 42 cases (from 84 to 42)
Overall, serious crimes and other offences against the body and property collectively declined by 832 cases in 2025.
Crackdown on Illegal Activities
In addition to crime reduction, Nagpur Police intensified action against illegal businesses during 2025. A total of 1,303 enforcement actions were carried out, including:
- NDPS (narcotics) cases: 536
- Illegal possession of weapons: 120
- Gambling-related offences: 205
- Illegal liquor trade: 295
- Other unlawful activities: 147
Focused Policing Initiatives
Police officials said the crime reduction was the result of multiple targeted initiatives such as Mission Night Watch, the Durga Marshal programme for women’s safety, enhanced security for women and senior citizens, adoption of habitual offenders, regular checking of repeat criminals, 100% e-beat patrolling with QR-code punching via mobile app, and swift preventive action against recently released jail inmates.
Additional measures included MPDA actions, externment proceedings, surveillance on notorious criminals, identification and rectification of fatal accident hotspots, routine nakabandis, combing operations, patrolling in isolated areas, evening bit patrolling between 6 pm and 11 pm, and immediate action based on public inputs.
Firm Stand Against Crime to Continue
Senior police officials reiterated that under the continued leadership of DCP Rashimta Rao N. (IPS), Zone 4 will maintain strict, proactive and citizen-friendly policing to further curb crime and enhance public safety in the coming years.
